New World, My Thoughts & Review

It’s a Start

New World is a new MMORPG developed by Amazon Games Studios and Double Helix Games (bought by Amazon in 2014). The game is built on the Amazon game engine, Amazon Lumberyard. You can learn more about the new world story on their website, https://www.newworld.com/en-us/game/about.

What to expect in New World?

My thoughts on New World so far. I have about 35 hours into the game and so far the game has enough content to keep a person busy. One thing New World has done right is the MMO aspects, the game has everything from PvP to dungeons to PvPvE to wave defense against monsters. You can trade, play the market, life skills, and the list goes on. The one thing that makes this game is I can trade! I can’t stress this enough, disabling or restricting trading in an MMO, is the worse possible thing a game publisher can do.

New World took notes from multiple games. They took parts from Guild Wars 2, Secret World, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, etc. Things like the combat to being able to get experience just from life content/world exploring. Other things that really make this game are the stats, being able to build the character the way you want is a huge plus for any MMORPG.

Lastly, this allows you to really focus on what you like to do and does not force you into something you wish to avoid. Things like PvP (toggle on / off) and being able to use any weapon. Now if they would only add in Dual Swords!

My First Impression of New World

The game itself is great, it’s what everyone wants an MMO, and the steam charts show that. New World forces everyone to play (no automated gameplay). This, in general, is what every MMO should strive for. So far my biggest issue would be the character. First, the character design is horrible, barely any real options, and can’t design the type of character you would want to play. Second, movement feels clunky, the transition from walking to running to platforming needs an overhaul. Third, not being able to open the inventory while running or doing something is a hindrance and bothers me to no end.

So in the end, should you spend $39.99 on the standard edition? My answer is Yes. The game gives you your money worth and provides hours of content that can really be fun. If you are looking for a solo game, this may not be for you then. There is tons of content you can do as a solo player though this will limit what you can do.
