The wait is over. Ravensburger just dropped a massive roadmap for Disney Lorcana at Gen Con 2025, revealing everything from the next set, Fabled, to the shocking announcement that is coming to the game. Here’s a full breakdown of what you need to know.
The Fabled Formula: New Cards, Returning Favorites, and Unprecedented Rarities
The upcoming Fabled set, launching this August with a pre-release on August 29th, is uniquely designed as a celebratory set to establish the new Core Constructed format. It will feature 204 total cards. Crucially, 33 will be mechanically new, while the remaining 171 cards will be returning favorites (“graduating” from Sets 1-4). This provides new players access to vital staples and ensures a healthy, balanced meta post-rotation. This infusion is a special, one-time measure designed to avoid the balance issues that functional reprints could create in the Infinity format.
Introducing Epic and Iconic Rarity
For collectors, Fabled introduces two new collectible card tiers that sit above Legendary:
- Epic Rarity features a foil, bleed-art treatment on the top half of the card, making it rarer than Legendary but easier to obtain than Enchanted.
- Iconic Rarity: Surpassing Enchanted, Iconic rarity is a stunning alternate-art treatment and is now confirmed as the rarest in the game. Iconic cards, beginning with Mickey and Minnie Mouse, feature full alternative art, 3D hot stamp effects, custom lore starfoil, and a hollow foil signature.

The set will also include 18 Enchanted cards—12 for new cards and 6 for returning cards that have never been Enchanted before.
A Goofy Movie Makes Its Debut
Headlining the new additions is the fan-favorite property A Goofy Movie.
- Powerline – World’s Greatest Rock Star: This Ruby card is the game’s first Ruby Singer, boasting an incredible Singer 9. His “Mashup” ability, which signals a major meta shakeup, allows him to sing a song and then play another song (cost 9 or less) from the top four cards of his deck for free.
- Other New Cards: The set includes Roxanne – Powerline Fan, which boosts other Singers, and P.J. – Caught Up in the Music, a formidable attacker when songs are played.
- New Mechanic: The Family Fishing Pole, an Emerald item, introduces a significant new mechanic. For 1 ink (and Banish the item), it allows a player to return one of their own exerted characters to their hand and gain two lore, opening new strategies for re-using “when played” abilities.

Key Returning Cards Confirmed
Several impactful cards from earlier sets are confirmed to return in Fabled (More coming soon once I have the full list), including:
- Ursula – Deceiver: A crucial piece of counter-play against song-heavy strategies.
- Robin Hood – Unrivaled Archer: Now downgraded to Rare, this card remains effective against evasive characters.
The Future of Competitive Play: Season 2 Lorcana Roadmap Revealed
Disney’s Lorcana second competitive season sees a massive global expansion. Players will build on local game store play through the Ravensburger Play Hub (RPH). This means events at stores right around the corner can be the first step on a player’s journey. From there, they can progress from the Fabled pre-release and weekly play to local Set Championships.

A significant development introduces the new Challenge Championship Qualifiers (CCQs). These events create more paths to top-tier competition, especially in regions without a premier Challenge event like the US West Coast. Winners receive a direct invitation to Championship-level events. Major European CCQs are now official in cities like Cardiff (UK), Wakefield (UK), and Stockholm (Sweden).
The global expansion also includes official Challenge series for China, Japan, Asia, Australia, and Brazil. All of these events will be open to international players.

Ravensburger directly addressed frustrations over the Milwaukee Challenge ticket sales. Ryan Miller confirmed a plan to “make it right” is forthcoming, which aims to ensure smoother experiences for future events.

To kick off the new era, a 5K tournament will take place in Anaheim. This will be the first major post-rotation event and is scheduled for the same weekend as the Fabled release.
A Look to the Future… and Beyond!

An unprecedented look at what lies ahead for Lorcana:
- Whispers in the Well (Q4 2025): Releasing November 7th (pre-release), this set has a mystery and investigation theme, introducing “Whispers”—a new type of partially formed glimmer. It officially brings Zootopia (returning), Gargoyles, and The Black Cauldron into Lorcana and introduces the “Detective” classification.
- Unnamed Q1 2026 Winter Set: A sneak peek at the first set of 2026 revealed a winter/ice theme. The key art features Stitch as a snowboarder and confirms the debut of Angel from Lilo & Stitch: The Series. The set is specifically designed to improve the limited (Draft, Sealed) gameplay experience.
- The Ultimate Tease: Toy Story is Coming! In the biggest bombshell of all, a short, dramatic video confirmed that the world of Toy Story is officially coming to Lorcana. While no details were given, this monumental reveal guarantees a massive surge of future interest.
New Ways to Play and Collect
Exclusive Promos
Lorcana’s anniversary celebration featured several key events and promos. Three exclusive promo cards were distributed: Goofy – Emerald Champion, Pluto – Tried and True, and Anna – True Hearted.

The Collection Quest
A social trading event called the “Collection Quest” was tested at the convention. It is now expanding to Disney California Adventure Park for the Fabled pre-release on August 29th. Attendees can trade cards to complete a list and earn an exclusive Belle – Accomplished Mystic promo card. This move signals a major push towards social, trade-focused gameplay.
New Store Products
To support local game stores and new players, Ravensburger is also releasing new products like the Big Tink Collection Starter and an Elsa-themed Gift Box. For collectors and puzzlers, a stunning line of 1,000-piece Ravensburger puzzles featuring Lorcana art will arrive this September.
