RAID: Shadow Legends, a mobile game, that took a fresh approach on an MMO meets turn-based game. The game itself is a simple concept, rock-paper-scissors with a twist (stats, items, skills). It provides a great base game that gives just enough rewards to allow you to play without the need to spend money.
A First Look
At first glance, there’s a ton of things to get lost in how much stuff it throws at you, from the tutorial to the pop-up windows for in-game items. Most would write this off as a typical mobile game.
The game throws you right into the fire with a tutorial that I never was able to figure out how to skip. Even though it seems like a lot to throw at a person just starting the game, it does a good job at teaching you the quick basics to play.
Mobile Game – A Closer Look
The game itself has tons of “p2w” elements, but this review isn’t about whether or not someone is a whale. The fact is if you are looking for a mobile game that is enjoyable with or without paying, this game provides tons of content that will keep you busy or entertained. From leveling up your characters to gearing them; it provides clan bosses and PVP as well!
If you don’t pay, you will have tons of things to do for a long time. Starting it off, we have champion development. A champion has multiple properties, such as level, rank, type, skills, and masteries.
A champion’s max level is determined by the champion’s rank/stars, for instance, a 3-star champion max level would be 30. The champion’s rank can ascend, this further enhances the champion’s main stats and unlocks the ability to wear accessories (Lv 4 ascend and higher).
A champion’s type is either blue, red, green, or purple. The concept here is blue is weak against green, green is weak against red, red is weak against blue, purple has no weakness.
Champion’s skills are upgraded by using duplicate champion or skill books. These books can be obtained through events, missions, and/or quests. Some skills also have a secondary effect after the champion has ascended, which adds another layer to the gameplay!
Finally, the masteries of a champion can be upgraded by farming a specific dungeon for scrolls that allow you to further enhance the champion!
My Thoughts
So, as you can see above, there are tons of options in the game to enjoy comfortably without the need to spend tons of money. They have created a fun, interactive game, that leaves you wanting more and just enough that it doesn’t overwhelm you. For anyone that is looking for something simple and can play on mobile / PC (using BlueStacks or something similar). I highly suggest RAID: Shadow Legends.
