Elyon – CBT1 Review

Let me begin by stating that Elyon is fun. The closed beta did pretty well and to be honest it felt more like an open beta more. The game felt smooth and the questing/leveling felt easy enough to not be something you dread. The PVP is pretty decent, it had some problems into which we will dive into. Overall, Elyon will be a fun and exciting game when it’s released. Keep updated on their main website.

What I liked

Elyon really felt clean with tons of content to try out. The game felt more like an Open Beta vs a Closed Beta, there was so many things to do that the game felt like a complete game. That being said, it was a copy from the Korean version, in which they did a great job moving it and translations into English.

One thing that stood out to me was that I got credit for quests that would kill or collect items even if others were attacking. Most games wouldn’t give you credit if you didn’t get the last hit. In addition, the quests line and the side quests made it easy to make the level you needed for the story.

Unique Playstyle

The next thing that made my time playing Elyon great was the Skill, Mana and Rune Tree. There are so many combos and ways to play that I feel there will be a ton of unique playstyles for each player to really dig into. I love being able to make my own style and not be forced to play with a static skillset. Don’t misunderstand, I believe there will be a BIS skillset, but that doesn’t always work for players and that’s what I love.

Now the Mana tree is another amazing thing, it adds a nice depth to your character development and unique playstyle. It provides those who want more of a specific style like offensive/defensive/supportive they are able to select that route. I was not able to dive more into it in the closed beta. I can see having this completed making a huge difference in the gameplay.

Finally, to add another level of character depth, we have the Rune tree. This tree works off runestones, which depending on their color and level will grant attribute points to use within the tree. The tree has 7 different types those being: Assault, Control, Fate, Support, Protection, Awakening, and Balance. As you obtain different gear and enhance the gear, it will have more slots for these stones. Gear runestones colors are changeable by using another gear piece with the color you want. This puts the final depth addition into character development unique playstyles, allows you to be whatever you want to be!

Things that bug

There were a couple of things that bugged me about the closed beta. Between Realm Wars, questing, enhancing, housing, clan wars, and dungeons, I felt that the CBT was missing an overall point and that was not providing a way to get max level or have enough money to buy items to help test functionality.

First, I found the Realm war very underwhelming. Realm war was chaotic when playing solo; it was hard to tell what was happening and what needed to happen. Next time I will aim to join up in a clan to attempt to be more organized. The other issue I found with the Realm War is that it wasn’t posted or listed anywhere that I saw.

Second, the dungeon’s not providing drops along with a reward felt wrong. I would like for dungeons to give loot along with a reward the daily reward. Dungeons just felt like something was missing.

Lastly, I would have liked to be able to have the option to max out my character and/or enhance my gear without the need to farm gold. In addition, not being able to obtain higher-level skills or enhance the gear up due to how much it cost. In the next CBT, I would appreciate them lowering these to a point where players can test everything more in-depth.

Play or Not

In my opinion, Elyon is a must Play this year. The focus of Elyon, to me, is PvP and it delivers multiple options from clan wars (10v10) to Realm Wars (200v200). The game provides enough content to keep most casuals happy and the hardcore PvP players engaged. PvE players were not forgotten as there is life content, housing, dungeons, and field/world bosses in which will keep you busy for the months to come. I’m excited to play Elyon on release.
