NCSoft has brought out their overhaul on Throne and Liberty, where they took the feedback that they received and transformed it into content. The gameplay looks smooth, and transitioning between weapons and skill queuing looks great. The weapon/class combinations are limitless and provide a huge range of gameplay for everyone. Throne and Liberty’s item weapons will be something other MMOs will need to pick up on. Let’s review what we know.
First, there has been multiple Producer Letters talking in great depths on Throne and Liberty and how much they’ve changed the game. Read my take here and here on the first two letters. They had the most content filled letters in my opinion.
Sword & Shield Weapon
The sword and shield are your normal tank skillset. Overall, the skills are pretty standard, we have taunt, chain pull, huge defensive boost, shield slam & charge, shield throw, whirlwind, and some level of reflect possiblities. Looking for a class that will be pretty much unkillable with an ungodly amount of CC? This is it.
Greatsword Weapon
The greatsword is your typical warrior skillset. Using this weapon will provide a huge HP pool for being an off tank alongside this ability to be a DPS warrior with the classic “whirlwind”. It also provides a good single target CC’s that will leave the enemy knockdowned or stunned. Looking for a class that provides two ways to play? This may be the class for you.
Bow Weapon
The bow is like a Longbow style class, with a little bit slower gameplay while relying on roots and evasion skills to keep enemies at bay. Overall, it seems that this class shines when able to standstill to increase damage output, along side distance and critical strikes allowing skills to be repeated. The class has plenty of roots and evasion skills to help overcome any problem. I do believe this weapon will be a very slow playstyle. Looking for a simple class with some combo possibilities? This may be for you.
Crossbow Weapon
The crossbow is a fast-paced class that relies heavily on dodging and fast attacks. The opposite of the Longbow. In reality, this weapon will provide high hit rate with burst style gameplay. With less CC available to the kit, relaying on others or the secondary weapon will be required. Looking to play a high burst damage class with high mobility? This one is for you.
Staff Weapon
The staff looks very slow compared to other weapons, heavily relying on controls like root and sleep to be able to cast more destructive spells. This will heavily rely on team members and other weapon combos to control enemies. There seems to be 3 elements: Lightning, Fire and Ice. Overall, I’m not really impressed with their style of a mage and hopefully we see some improvement to it. Looking for a dull standstill class that drops fireballs on people? This may be what you need in life.
Daggers Weapon
The fan favorite in any MMO. Dual daggers are the go-to for most people in PvP. It’s flashy, it’s fast, it’s daggers. This will probably be the highest used weapon in-game. Overall, the dagger weapons will provide huge mobility and burst damage along with damage over time effects. Combination of this with other weapons will be almost permanent crowd control. Looking for an annoying bee that keeps stinging? This is most definitely what you want to play.
Wand & Spellbook Weapon
The Wand & Spellbook weapon is a mix of an enchanter and healer. Providing controlling spells and heals. In my opinion, this will be a highly used weapon due to the nature of what the spells can do. This weapon seems to provide a mix between Enchanter and Healer class. Being able to cast regen abilities, sleep and other style buff/debuffs, it will be one of the most used item in game for solo play due to it’s unique skillset. Love being able to control things? This will be exactly what you are looking for.
Diversification
Throne & Liberty’s weapon sets will be giving us a run for our money. I believe the game’s uniqueness will offer something we haven’t seen yet in games. Each combination of weapons can provide a different outlook and outright change a full situation. I’m looking forward to being able to theory craft more once this game is released in the US. Until then, I will do my best to keep you updated with my opinions! Thanks for reading. Be sure to subscribe to our Newsletter, join our Discord and follow us on social media (X).
