Predecessor Game Review 2024 Anticipation

predecessor art work

I talked about Predecessor in my previous article, although I didn’t go into depth on the gameplay or the champions. So, in this article, let’s do a Predecessor Game Review for 2024 and look at what Predecessor has accomplished and where they are going.

Predecessor Game 2023 Accomplishments

Predecessor Accomplishments 2023

Omeda Studios has given us a game to what Paragon was with major updates and overhauls to the item system. I do believe that the year 2024 will be the new beginning that Predecessor needs and hopefully the players want. Throughout 2023, we’ve seen some updates to the UI like a scoreboard and end-game stats and tons of original Paragon heroes ( Phase, Revenant, Wraith, Serath ) and even Omeda Studios original champions, Zarus & Kira

The game state has been a roller coaster, some good, some bad. They’ve continued to listen and provide feedback to the community outreach and have stood tall through 2023 without closing their doors. With all the changes that they’ve done in 2023, 2024 is looking promising.

Heroes

Throughout 2023, we’ve seen tons of champions released. Starting from Countess in 2022 December to Kira in March to Iggy and Scorch in December. There were some tough moments for each new champion they brought out that would cause crashes or performance issues. Omeda Studios took feedback and properly produced some solutions to these problems.

My suggestion would be to create a test environment that more people in the future can be part of and help drive better suggestions in hopes that we avoid major game-breaking changes that we’ve seen in the past on new hero releases.

Items

Item synergy significantly influences the game, and breaking that synergy often destroys the motivation to continue playing. Omeda Studios is completely overhauling the item system, adding new items and balancing old ones.

Item balancing is one of the hardest things to do. The slightest changes can make a rippling effect in a game, causing 1 or more champions to snowball unpredictability. One suggestion I have for Omeda Studios is to build a test server or provide a test client for those interested in making Predecessor better.

Ability Buffering

Ability buffering allows users to “queue” an ability. This allows you to use “active” another skill ability during the animation of an ability. For example, by casting E on Gideon and his R mid-way through his E, thus having his ultimate cast almost instantly rather than a second delay.

Skills like Flash and pulls that affect the position of champions tend to have weird rippling effects with ability buffering. Champions like Grux or Greystone can buffer their ability during their “long” animations that in turn overlap with other character’s abilities causing their skills to be a priority.

Overall, the ability buffering system was heavily needed and while there are still issues with it; the gameplay hasn’t felt this good in months. With these changes, the gameplay feels cleaner as fewer bugs have occurred due to skills properly executing.

Predecessor Game Review 2024 & Beyond

Skins & Currency

First, the biggest news that everyone cares about is SKINS. More skins, more cosmetics! Second, similar to League of Legends in-game currency, we will have our own F2P currency. You can earn the in-game currency by simply playing Predecessor. The currency is used to purchase and unlock champions and their affinities.

Ranked & Items

Third, ranked play is coming first half of 2024, although limited to solo/duo until the official launch. With ranked play coming, we will be getting an overhaul on the item system which will be adding a sixth passive item slot and a hopefully better crest system.

New Mode & Rewards

Fourth on our list is a new game mode for more casual play. This mode will feature a 3v3 arena that will be using the verticality more uniquely. I do hope that adding this mode doesn’t deter from the main core gameplay.

Fifth, they will be adding player quests to obtain rewards (maybe emotes, sprays, or in-game currency). Challenges include daily and weekly which will provide rewards and opportunities to all types of players making the time you invest into Predecessor feel rewarding.

Console & Open Beta

Finally, they did launch the PlayStation Closed Beta, which seems to have done very well with the community. For all the console players, be sure to sign up and start playing! The more sign-ups we get the more rewards we obtain. We will see Predecessor go into Open Beta early this year and I am looking forward to it!

What’s to come?

predecessor 2024 game review

Predecessor is standing the test of time and negativity. They continue to push forward with new updates, balancing, and proper feedback to the community. I do believe Omeda Studios can deliver us a full-fledged game in 2024.

My hope for Omeda Studios is to bring us the original champions from Paragon. While introducing new and exciting champions that they’ve created. This will show that they can provide meaningful content and deliver a full-fledged MOBA that can stand in the spotlight once again.

As the game goes into Open Beta, I will continue to update my builds on omeda city. I look forward to creating more in-game content on my YouTube & Twitch channels. I stream every weekend Friday and Saturday from 9 PM to 1 AM EST.

With these seasons behind us, I am looking forward to the predecessor game in 2024. Let’s pay tribute to the previous experience in hopes of a brighter future for Predecessor.
