Spellbreak: Chapter 2

Chapter 2 is coming right around the corner. If you haven’t checked out the new Dominion mode, check it out on Twitch. With this major update, we are getting some nice overhauls on talents and gauntlet combos. The update is also bringing Ranked / Competitive play to Spellbreak! Read the Patch Notes.

General Gameplay, Runes, & Potions

With that, let’s dive into some of the changes. First up, general gameplay and runes, all of these changes are aimed at making it harder to disengage after joining a fight. Making it harder to leave a fight was heavily needed, don’t get me wrong, if you can disengage cleanly that’s great, but it shouldn’t be for free like having a flight rune or teleport.

Potions getting a needed update with how fast you can consume them; before it was better to use smaller potions end game due to not being able to cast the bigger potions as they took way too long without the upgrade talent tree. I would have preferred to see the Knowledge potion removed, but drop rate reduction is okay.

Classes, Gauntlets, & Talents

Spell damage is increasing with rarity in addition to mana cost will be consistent (before it went down with rarity). On top of that, the sorcery will also finally have a reduced cooldown based on rarity. In my opinion, the biggest changes are being made around combing different gauntlets together. Toxic, I believe, is the best next to the fire gauntlet, while Stone got a slight nerf with a slower cast time. Wind, Frost, and Lightning will bring some fun off-hand gameplay.

Talents got a complete overhaul, the total points is now 7 (before 6). By doing this, they’ve not only added more combinations but added a nice way to really allow players to play they want. I’m for one going to be excited to see what kind of crazy combinations people come up with, including myself! My first suggestions would be the following:

  • Hardened – 3 points
  • Wellspring – 1 point
  • Inspired – 3 points / Vampiric – 1 point

Chapter 2: The Fracture

Overall, Chapter 2 is bringing a much-needed overhaul to Spellbreak and with the addition of Ranked / competitive play, I believe, it will add a nice fresh look to the game for new and old players alike. My only concern is how this information is being distributed in which I talked about it in my other article here.
